Thriller Mood Board and Conventions.

Thriller Genre:

The Thriller genre is in some ways similar to the Horror genre, containing some acts of violence, often murders. But in Thrillers there is often less focus on the infliction of pain itself, but more of the suspense, excitement, and tension as it's main attributes. Thrillers focus on the mystery of the acts rather than the psychopathic evaluation behind them that you find often in horror films such as Se7en, which focused on the deranged mental state of the killer and his religious obsession, but it also focused on the mystery of who the killer was and incorporated an exciting chase scene into the film, constituting it also as a thriller.
Thrillers are well known for being films working to a deadline or a set time, 24 is a thriller series, where the character is constantly under a set time deadline, and in Se7en, the officers only had so much time to find out who the killer was before more bodies started to pile up.
In more recent years, thrillers have often been based around the police force or political themes, often the police force have to decipher who the killer is, or the killer has a political motive. Thrillers like this that're set in almost real life situations with normal police forces have given a rise to 'paranoid' thrillers, where usually small scale characters undercover something scandalous in higher social rankings, such as politics etc.
Thrillers often use things like car chases, or gun fights, things to do with action and often male characters to add to the suspense, often in thrillers the killer is almost caught until they escape for some reason or another, often turning into a dead end in an alleyway and dissapearing etc.
Thrillers are often known for keeping audiences on the edge of their seats, changing from locations and never following a simple straight plot so the audience is always guessing, even sometimes thrillers cant complete the storylines and end in a cliffhanger, leaving the ending to the audience's imagination, which makes them think about the film for even longer.
Thrillers can also be classed as a 'who dunnit' film, because throughout there may be many suspects as to who is the killer, or none at all, and the audience is constantly trying to figure out just who it may be.
Thrillers are quite intelligent in their storylines, often using paranoia, kidnapping, stalking, obsession, psychological disorders and psychological twists in their plots to always keep the audience guessing, in thrillers no characters tend to be 2D, everyone has a more vivid 3D side to them that makes them think and act in the manner in which they do, instead of being just a killer, or just a victim.
